Having taken part in two treks over the last twelve months, I decided to take on a different type of challenge...26.2 miles of it in fact in the 2007 ING New York City Marathon!
Day 1 - Glasgow -> London
A stopover day south of the border ahead of flying out. Booked into a hotel that was meant to a 1/4 mile from Heathrow, turns out to be a £25 taxi fare thanks to the one way system. And even then the taxi driver moans he's been at Heathrow for three hours and this is shit fare. That's after he figures out where the place is. The hotel is basic, but will do. We head out to central London. Mr Salter has the benefit of our company, Mr Kavan misses out (shame on you Jesus). Successful autograph stalking of Jennifer Ellison, Neil Stuke, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Patricia Hodge, Elena Roger, Jean Marsh, and David Haig.
Day 2 - London -> Heathrow -> JFK
Nightmare day, nothing like a long distance flight to cheer you up. Spend numerous hours trying to sleep at Heathrow. Flight passes with the aid of The Simpsons Movie several times over and some sleep. The ultra cheap wine on offer on the flight does not help. Arrival @ JFK just before midnight and the massive queue to get a cab begins. Still don't understand these really foolish people who jump in an unmarked dark tinted windowed sedan instead of waiting, a rip off the only thing awaiting them on their journey if they are lucky. An hour and $45 lighter we arrive in the East Side of Manhattan to be greeted by two manic twin comedians.
